Cutty Sark relaunched

Perfecting the art of construction

After a £50 million restoration, Cutty Sark – the world’s last surviving tea clipper – has been officially reopened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Byrne Group’s Ellmer Construction has been part of the dedicated team restoring the Cutty Sark back to its former glory, and, with praise being heaped on it by industry experts, is arguably one of the most successful ship restorations in history.

“The sheer structural and design ingenuity of the new Cutty Sark forms an exhilarating architectural spectacle, deftly combing historical deference with a fearless sense of cutting-edge technological ambition. In doing so, not only has the cherished legacy of a beloved ship been secured, it has been vigorously and imaginatively revitalised.” Ike Ijeh, Building
