The project to extend the existing Westfield Shopping Centre in White City / Shepherds Bush, London, northwards covers an area of approximately 7.7 hectares. The development comprises multi-storey retail and car park spaces and also includes a large high level transfer deck which supports a proposed residential development over a new TFL bus turning / parking area. The Package works were completed around the infrastructure of the existing 'live' shopping centre without impacting on the daily operation.
Byrne Bros. package works featured rapid construction of ground and basement level pile caps with a series of nine slip-formed cores structures, all bracing a steel framed structure which extends over an area of 18,000m2. Subsequent construction of composite concrete decks included connection to the structure of the existing shopping centre without disturbing the retail stores.
The substantial concrete transfer slab demanded 24/7 activity for the TFL bus garage and associated access routes to be formed, enabling the existing bus garage to close and surrounding areas released for development.
