This was one of the larger packages in an overall £200 million project to regenerate and refurbish the Grade I Listed Royal Opera House.
Our works consisted of removing some of the existing auditorium flooring and demolishing access staircases, replacing them with new in-situ concrete flooring and revised stair configuration, all of which resulted in better access and areas for extra seating. Ellmer also installed new in-situ concrete lift shafts and formed a revised basement layout and new orchestra pit.
Our package also involved installing major new structural steelwork, to form a new roof over the existing building, together with all roof finishes - taking great care not to damage the existing internal dome, which was being refurbished.
