Olympia West Hall

London

Earls Court & Olympia (EC&O) has officially opened its new-look West Hall following a £20m redevelopment initiative. The West Hall now offers 8,361sqm of space across two floors plus connecting links into the Grand Hall and Olympia Two.

The existing façade along Blythe Road was maintained with new ground & first floor slabs cast against the existing structure. The project consisted of a ground floor fibre reinforced concrete slab, on 150mm type 1 backfill, powerfloated to a high spec & low tolerance finish.

Byrne Bros. carried out the ground works and installed a new drainage system.

Pilecaps were cast on top of pile foundations in which holding down bolts were cast to accommodate structural steel columns.

The first floor consisted of 1m² waffled slab and was reinforced and post-tensioned.

Voids and suitable penetrations were formed through the structure for service routing. Halfen inserts were casted at 1.5m centres on the underside of level 1 slab for fixing the internal ground floor services. Reinforced concrete slabs were cast after the new roof was put in pace with temporary voids to accommodate access, by tower crane, for materials & plant.
