Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox as a European HQ for W.R. Berkley, the 190m-tall commercial office development contains 400,000ft2 of office floorspace over 35 floors as well as two basement levels, including shops and restaurants.
Floor plates range in size from 6,500ft2 to 16,000ft2 and are arranged around a side core located to the south of the building, offering views of London to the north, east, west and south west.
The Arup designed reinforced concrete core required the completed core to be vertically post-tensioned, a first for construction techniques of this kind in London.
Byrne Bros. were responsible for the construction, of all reinforced concrete elements within the development, which has been dubbed "The Scalpel".
These included, traditional blue-sky, slipforming, top-down, pre-cast stairs and twin-wall in restricted working locations. A Byrne Bros. site team of over 160 personnel delivered the 25,596m3 of concrete and 3,576 tonnes of reinforcement. The completed project opening date was in Autumn 2017.
