Environment - ISO 14001

Environment Logos

"The Board will review environmental performance on a regular basis to promote increased awareness of the importance of creating an environmental legacy through best practice"

Patsy Byrne, Chief Executive, Byrne Group

The Byrne Group operates within the requirements of environmental ISO 14001 and is accredited to this internationally-recognised standard. We explain our corporate policy to clients and supply chain prior to any contract award and its principles are adhered to in any work we undertake. We are working towards a carbon neutral status and in doing so are raising awareness of the need to achieve environmental best practice both at home and in the workplace.

Because our construction and operations affect the environment by consuming natural resources and generating waste, The Byrne Group is developing and implementing systems that help us minimise these impacts. Our goal is to protect the environment and the health and safety of our employees, our customers and the wider community.

Throughout our companies, we are reinforcing this commitment with our accreditation to the ISO 14001 standards. Our companies Health & Safety Policies frame these efforts, and will help us achieve compliance with all applicable laws and regulations supported by our own operational guidelines. This commitment is further reinforced by member company, Ellmer Construction which has successfully achieved accreditation to both the FSC and PEFC schemes.

Securing the environment: Now and for the future

The Byrne Group has a highly responsible attitude to the living, breathing world and recognises that the very nature of its activities is intrusive to the natural environment. We are totally committed to reducing the impact of those activities by balancing our business aims with consequences that the construction process might have on the environment.

This includes making efficient use of energy both in construction and subsequent occupation, employing renewable materials where possible, recycling materials, keeping dust, noise and pollution to a minimum and driving out waste.

Using natural materials from fully sustainable and renewable sources is a key area of focus for our business. All timber used by Byrne Bros now comes from an approved plantation in Brazil assessed for its ethical growing and harvesting policy. This, together with a strict recycling regime, has led to Byrne Bros and Ellmer Construction being among the first to receive FSC and PEFC certification.
