Thorn Chorus EllmerByrne Bros
LONDON 2012 OLYMPIC STADIUM

SCOPE OF WORK

Byrne Bros. was appointed by Sir Robert McAlpine/Team Stadium in spring 2008 for the construction of the in situ concrete works for the sub and superstructure.

Prior to construction, the original structural design and proposed practicable alternatives was reviewed to ensure quality and programme. For example, utilising precast beam and hollowcore slabs in the North and East stands to overcome poor ground conditions, the extensive use of on-site precasting to provide high quality finishes where required, and the use of prefabricated reinforcement to meet programme and tolerance requirements of 60,000 seater concrete framed stadium on brown-field site alongside main railway tracks. The structure comprised four suspended in situ slabs, eight main cores which provide support to the clear spanning roof.

The Byrne Bros. work packages included the RC substructure and superstructure works for the stadium, the relocated Waste Transfer Station and the Northern Triangle residential scheme for key workers.
